To telephone the USA from the United Kingdom you need to dial:

then the full national number minus any leading 1

Example

American number: 929-555-0012 (or 1-929-555-0012)
Dialled from the UK as: 00 1 929 555 0012

Phone numbers beginning +1

Sometimes, the telephone number you want to call may already be written out including the +1 country code. For example:

  • +1 929 555 0012

In such a case, you just replace the '+' with the UK international access code of 00. The example above would be dialled as: 00 1 929 555 0012.


How do they call me from the USA?

To call a United Kingdom landline or mobile phone from the United States, dial 011 44, then the UK number without its leading zero.

For example, the UK number 01632 312829 should be dialled as 011 44 1632 312829 from the United States of America.
