Phone calls to Germany

How to call Germany from the UK

Including how to call Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Dortmund.

Germany uses the country code +49.

To telephone Germany from the United Kingdom you need to dial:

0049
then the full national number minus any leading 0

Example

German number: 02345 55776
Dialled from the UK as: 00 49 2345 55776

Phone numbers beginning +49

Sometimes, the telephone number you want to call may already be written out including the +49 country code. For example:

  • +49 2345 55776
  • +49 (0)2345 55776

In such cases, you just replace the '+' with the UK international access code of 00 and ignore any reference to '(0)'. Both the examples above would be dialled as: 00 49 2345 55776.
