02477 Numbers

In the UK, an 02477 number is a normal landline phone number within the Coventry (024) area code.

Any UK number beginning with 024 is a Coventry number. The '024' area code at the beginning is optional if you're dialling from one Coventry 024 landline phone to another.

024, 0247 or 02477?

There is no 02477 area code. Since the year 2000, Coventry has had the three-digit area code 024, followed by eight-digit local numbers.

The correct way to write a number beginning '02477' is (024) 77xx xxxx, as this clearly distinguishes the optional 024 area code from the eight digit local phone number. (Why this matters...)

Have things changed?

During the year 2000, Coventry's area code changed from 01203 to 024, while its old six-digit local phone numbers were prefixed with '76' to make them eight digits long.

For example, (01203) 833333 became (024) 7683 3333. The overall length of the number is the same, but dialling locally now needs eight digits to be dialled instead of six.

The new system gives Coventry nearly 80 million numbers: (024) 20000000 to (024) 99899999. Prior to the change, fewer than 800,000 were available: (01203) 200000 to (01203) 998999.
