UK Area Codes and Phone Number Information

019755 area code

Alford

The 019755 area code is used for Alford and the surrounding area.

Locations using 019755 numbers include:

019755 and 01975 codes

Officially, both Alford and Strathdon use the shorter 01975 area code with 6-digit local numbers.

In practice, established BT lines and some other operators' numbers beginning 01975 5 appear to retain an older arrangement whereby just 5 digits are dialled locally. This means that other 01975 numbers can only be reached by dialling the full, national phone number.

Numbers in use in Alford are therefore as follows:

CodeNumber range
019755(019755) 20000 to 99899
01975(01975) 200000 to 299999
(01975) 400000 to 499999
(01975) 500000 to 519999
(01975) 900000 to 998999

Other 01975 numbers are used for Strathdon.

Most numbers using 01975 numbers are normal Alford and Strathdon landlines but be aware that, as is the case for all UK area codes, such numbers may also be used for services without any physical link to the area. (More info)

Area code history

Alford and Strathdon previously had separate area codes. Numbers from the former Alford 0336 area code were absorbed into the 0975 area (which later became 01975) sometime before the mid-1990s.

Officially, this should have led to a uniform 0975 area code (later 01975) and 6-digit local numbers across both areas. However, BT lines appear to have retained 5-digit local dialling and the full number is required when dialling between the two.

The 0336 prefix was reused for pagers and premium rate services later in the 1990s.
